Getting More Web Traffic Through Press Releases

by Kale McClelland

As more and more people learn the ins and outs of advertising, both online and off, you will soon realize how important a press release can be to your company. You'll find that when you issue a press release that is both informative and appealing that you will be able to bring more people to your site and to your business than with any other form of marketing. Whether you are a new business that is struggling with getting enough clients, oar you are comfortable but feel that you could be doing better, you'll find that a good press release might be exactly what you need.

Basically, a press release is a professionally produced bit of copy about your company which is meant to be distributed to the media. Perhaps it is about your newest product or service which you feel could use some attention form the public, or just something about your company which you think that may be newsworthy enough to receive some press. The important thing is that your press release be one that will convince the media organizations to whom you will distribute it that it will be interesting to their audience. Make your press release something which will grab the interest of the public.

You'll find that there are a variety of media that you can submit your press release to, ranging from newspapers and television to radio, news websites and magazines. Remember that a press release will usually follow a specific format; keep this format in mind, and if you have any doubts, ask the venue you are planning to send it to. Remember that if it is not formatted correctly that there will be a good chance that they will simply toss it.

A press release is not simply an advertisement. This must be newsworthy, or your press release will not see the light of day. Give the media outlets a reason to run this as a story. For instance, an event sponsored by your firm would be a good angle, as would perhaps an award received by your firm. An advertisement disguised as a press release however, will not be run. Don't make this mistake; a sales pitch has no place in a press release.

Your press release should include information on when you would like your release to be run as a story, along with your contact information and a short summary of the press release, usually a few sentences. The content of the press release should follow this. Remember to put the most important information at the beginning of your release; news items are often cut short for time considerations, so make sure to put the most important information first.

Take advantage of the news media in your area and make sure that your community is aware of what you are doing and what you can do for them; many businesses have found that this is an excellent way to build links throughout the community and to better their client base, and you can use this to your advantage as well!
