Owning a well-laid out website with great sales copy is good news. Owning such a website that's buzzing with traffic is great news. So what do you want - a website packed with traffic or just eye candy? Of course, you want a website jam-packed with traffic - and here's how you can divert massive traffic to your website:

Whee, it's free!

Now, if you are selling a product, say coconut oil used in cook, and you want to give away a freebie that will give customers incentive to sign up for your email list. If your e-book or report talks about the best dishes to make with coconut oil, it will be well received on a site about coconut oil. The point of this example is this - freebies attract people, visitors who will arrive at your website because the freebie strikes a chord or fills a need. Along with the freebie, they will join your list to get it and then you can sell to them again in the future and stay in touch with them now.

Gee! It's not free!

What's that mean? Relax, we are talking about introducing PPC or pay per click into the mix. These are web advertisements that you can set up and release as your budget permits. If you budget $100 a month, PPC ads can be placed on search engines and will bring traffic to your website. If you take this route, you'll want to research your keywords thoroughly prior to planking down your deposit. Work on getting a killer ad developed, then watch the visitors arrive. Stick with Google if you're offering a service and go with Yahoo a product offering.

Getting Going With Link Building

You build links when: (i) someone likes your website so much that he plants your link on his own website; (ii) you pay a web design firm for placing links on other reputed websites, and (iii) when you exchange links with other reputed websites. Note the use of the word "reputed" above - if you build links with scamsters or link farms, your website will receive a negative rating by search engines. Always, build links with reputed websites and avoid exchanging links with your competitors.

Article Submissions

Article marketing is one of the older, traditional forms of marketing online. Does this mean it's out of date? Quite the contrary, article marketing is stronger than ever. If you provide professional, informative content on your website on a consistent level, you will find that your credibility increases. If you increase your credibility and get the word out at the same time by submitting your articles to article reprint directories, traffic will increase to your site. As well, one way backlinks will increase your sites visibility will increase many-fold.

Affiliate marketing

Monetize your website by adding themed affiliate program services and products. Through places like CJ.com and Linkshare.com, you can build quite a nice set of products which your customers will want to buy. This works if you have a fast-moving product that needs a lot of publicity.

Running a Contest or Sweepstakes

Use the services of websites such as Feedback and Response-O-Matic to plant forms on your website. Now, ask users to fill in these forms to qualify for a prize. This way you will collect a massive database that you can use for email marketing.

Viral marketing

Register with social networking websites and plug in fun and engaging content that will draw the members to your own website. Your traffic will receive a super boost using viral marketing.

These were some of the methods you can use for generating terrific traffic. You can do nice things offline too, such as giving away free tees, car stickers, etc. (with your website's name on it). No matter what you do, do it with panache!
