Brochures Get People To Take Notice And Action

by Jacob Mielson

It can be easy to become overwhelmed with advertising and marketing possibilities when you are in charge of promotion, whether it is for a business, non-profit club, or event. Even though much of today's world is focused on digital means of communication, it is important that you not underestimate the importance of collateral. These are the items that people in your intended audience can bring with them as tangible reminders. Two of the most used time-tested pieces of collateral that any organization should use are brochures and custom business cards.

Brochures are simply fold-out pamphlets that give your intended audience -- whether they be customers, donors, patrons or volunteers -- the essential information about your organization. Typically, they are three or four paneled documents and have both information and pictures on the front and the back.

The design of your brochure should match the feel and personality of your organization. Brochures can be printed on either glossy or matte paper. They can use either four-color printing processes for vibrant pictures or you can choose two-color processing, which can yield an elegant and understated look.

Keep your goal in mind when you are designing your brochure. To ensure a proper turn out for your event, make sure that you include the important information such as: time, date, location, maps, and any other event details. If you are expecting guests to send back donation pledges, be sure that the brochure has one panel that can be ripped off and send back as a pledge form.

To cut corners and save on costs, it may be tempting to order cheap business cards. But remember that people will remember your business cards long after they meet you, so quality is key. Ink that smudges or flimsy paper will give people the impression that your organization is also cheap and of lower quality.

Remember that there is the slightest distinction between good quality and going overboard. Particularily as it pertains to volunteer or non-profit groups, try not to appear to prospective contributors or volunteers that your company is reckless with funds by carelessly spending it on needlessly costly collateral things. It is both reasonable to expect and suggested that non-profit and philanthropic groups strive to make practical pamphlets and business cards as they put budget considerations up front.
