Want to Build Your Business on TV and Radio? Then Read On!

by Marsha Friedman

It is amazing to know that there are only a handful of public relations firms out there that truly know how to harness the power of public relations . Which comes as no surprise since media interviews are among the most effective yet least known marketing methods you could ever use.

But as good as these interviews are, they can be made even more effective.

Marsha Friedman, Founder of Event Management Services Inc, a national public relations firm says " As with most things, there are insider techniques that can help radio and TV interview 'first-timers' do a powerful job. In fact, here are eight":

1. Always Be Geared Up For Your Interview. Before you step foot on the set, really make sure that all of your "ammo" is in order and you are well-versed in your facts. Use a "cheat sheet' with your best info. The audience can easily detect the difference between a guest bursting with knowledge!and one who's 'knowledge well' is quickly drying up. The latter will lose the audience's attention and any credibility they had been building."

2. The More You Practice, the Better You Will Be. Marsha Friedman says, "A tough challenge is to stay on topic. Hosts and their viewers can throw you off topic in a heartbeat. So here is your challenge: keep afloat while you are on-air. If you're new to the media game, consider getting a media coach. Got experience already? Then keep sharp with mock interviews with your colleagues." When it comes to being ready, the more practice you put in goes a long way.

3. Public Relations is not a One-Day Thing. Public relations campaigns are not a one-time deal and should be developed into a longer national approach. The longer that you are out there on television and talk radio, the more you will recognized as an expert in your industry.

4. Keep the interview pipeline full. When it comes to the number of interviews you schedule and give, you must do as many as possible to really see some positive results. Marsha Friedman adds, "What could be better than talking to millions of people without having to travel at all!"

5. Be Ready for Anything! Media appearances should be thought of as 'instant promotional opportunities,' and you need to be available when they are. Marsha Friedman says, "That means day or night." Being on the air, often and at any time, will boost your company's visibility! and sales!

6. Sparkle on air. Enthusiasm speaks loud and clear. Marsha Friedman adds, "Keep the viewers and listeners interested. Treat every interview like it is your most important!"

7. Keep the audience listening. Always remember that media is about entertainment first. The trick, of course, is to be both informative and entertaining. If you keep it entertaining, the host will really help you push your message!

8. Good time management. If you really want to get the most out of your television or talk radio appearance you need to make sure to maximize your time. Be entertaining, be information and educate. These three things will help you give good interview.

Well, that's it. These 8 tips should help you with your media interviews.
