An autoresponder is an automatic email response software or application. In short, it is an automatic email sent to someone in response to some action. A good quality autoresponder will allow you to send more than one email at specific intervals. They will even allow those emails to include custom information such as names, dates, times, etc. There are many different autoresponder companies to choose from. Aweber and Getresponse are just a few of the industry leaders.

The aim of Email marketing is to promote products and services via email. Email marketing is one of the most effective means to promote brand awareness and establish a relationship with your customers over time. Research has shown that the average person needs to see your ad over 7 times before they are confident enough to make a purchase. An effective email marketing campaign not only accomplishes this but can also convert your one-time-buyer into a long term customer.

You should know what it is exactly that you want to achieve before you start to launch an email marketing campaign. Do you want to gain new purchasers, keep the clients you already have, build rapport with your client base, or do more repeat business? Do you plan to provide useful data or are you aiming to provoke a specific reaction? Your aims should be clear if you want to accomplish them, because you want to have the desired effect on your readers.

As part of the web based email marketing strategy, try to keep the content of your email as short and to the point as possible. Sending a lengthy email may prevent people from reading it. Also, avoid sending attachments. People are afraid of viruses and they will seldom download the file.

Also, be sure not to send out emails in an HTML format because corporate email systems detect it as spam which triggers spam-blocking software. Personalize your email through your email marketing campaign as it is a key to becoming successful. Using your full name than your company's name gives you more credibility. Remember to use the recipient's name in the subject line as well. You'll find your emails are opened more often because recipients recognize emails from people they know.

An effective email marketing campaign needs email recipients to open and read their email. Most people will only do that if you can quickly capture their attention and interest within the email's subject line. Therefore, subject lines need to sound interesting within a line of no more than 40 characters. Obviously, if you cannot appeal to your intended readers, your email marketing campaign will fail.

A good autoresponder is important because without what is called "opting in", it is illegal to send information. If done properly, the autoresponder will allow you to place an opt-in box on your web site by cutting and pasting a piece of code. After that, they will receive an email requiring confirmation the they will accept information from you.
