Social Bookmarking And Why It's Important

by Clark Maze

Social bookmarking allows users to store the content from your blog to their own bookmark list. Each list is available online for the user to categorize or read through at some other point. A number of tools exist right now to help facilitate social bookmarking and they all work in relatively the same way.

For example, suppose you are gathering articles on online business tips. You would want to bookmark the articles you find while searching the internet. Then, you would be able to access the articles containing the tips through your web account. After you have read through the articles, you could sort them if you choose.

Social bookmarking has been noted and exploited by bloggers. They can provide icon short cuts for each article so that visitors can add the articles to their bookmark lists, and so that people who might be interested can now find the article through their bookmark network. Thus, the bookmarks increase website traffic to the linked articles, and to the rest of the blogger's site.

Tags can be used for each bookmarked article to categorize collected information. This way others can search through your articles by using key words. Tags are words that help categorize or describe the basis of the article that is in reference.

Social bookmarking allows people to quickly and easily gather information on topics by allowing users to read and rate articles. The steadily increasing number of bookmarking users allows the process to be streamlined and features to be added, making bookmarking a more powerful tool. Other features being added include feed subscriptions, creating groups, and email links to articles.

This is just the beginning of this type of content collection tool and I'm sure at some point we will all be using a version of the currently available products since we are all looking and gathering content online. This is the basis of most of our online activities and it only seems natural that tools like this would be coming out that offer more flexibility and control to each user.

To have bookmarks ready for use online, regardless of the machine that you are currently operating, is a tremendous step up from the former state of things. Personally, I am eager to see more advancements in tools like bookmarks and how such tools will develop.
