by Jim Thorne

If you've ever seen Office Space, you are well aware that they typical office has a host of problems ranging from unmotivated workers to redundant work to irritating co-workers. Nothing compares to the kind of distraction and discomfort that you receive when co workers are noisy. Noisy employees bring one thing-inefficiency and as a matter of fact employees tend to talk more about gossips than other important matters related to work.

Office Distractions

The employee as well as the manager is affected by noise and its effects to work. Noise brings distraction to workers, and this distraction leads to frustration which is eventually translated to stress on the part of the manager. Did you know that approximately $500 billion is lost due to distraction and noise in the office? Employees admit that they are more distracted with chatting co-workers than simple gadgets making sound during office hours. The sound of clicking keyboards is predictable in offices, that is why this sound does not bother employees that much. Ignoring a sound or noise depends upon whether it is predictable or not. On the other hand, if the noise is unpredictable then employees tend to get more distracted in them.

Sound Masking

This is where the power of sound masking really works. With the use of white noise, a sound of certain frequency covers the distracting nature of another sound, making them bearable to the ears and less stressful to people. Again, this would be beneficial for both sides, workers and managers alike. With these very useful devices employees can focus on their work while the managers can already manage and supervise their subordinates without any hassle.

It's a fact that workers are distracted at work. Sound masking equipment to reduce the effects of conversational distractions is a happy solution for workers and managers alike.
